Brand Kit vs. Media Kit: which one do you need first?
A Brand Kit is your logo, colors, type and guide. A Media Kit is Canva templates built on them. What each includes and which one comes first.
Ten-plus years in brand identity and a lot of business owners later, the list of complaints is short. It's the same two, every time: the brand looks generic, or making anything with it takes forever. The two kits answer one each.
What is a Brand Kit?
The Brand Kit is the visual identity itself. It's built from scratch around your business so you show up consistently everywhere.
It starts with a questionnaire, moves through hand sketches to three logo concepts, and ends with the files and a guide. What you get:
- A logo, with every version you'll need: main, horizontal, stacked, icon and one-color. More in logo variations.
- The logo in PNG, JPG, PDF and SVG. More in logo file formats.
- A color palette with HEX, RGB and CMYK codes.
- Typography, with fonts chosen for how the brand will be used.
- A brand guide that answers which logo, which color, which photo.
- Mockups showing the brand on real pieces.
It usually takes two to four weeks. Starting at 2500 NIS. See the Brand Kit page for the details.
What is a Media Kit?
Once the brand system is in place, the Media Kit puts it to work: Canva templates for posts, decks and the pieces you make every week. You change the words, not the layout.
It's for the things you make every week:
- Social media posts, carousels, stories and reels
- A presentation slide deck
- Everyday pieces: banners, email headers, flyers
Monthly holiday and season sets, and PDF guides or workbooks, come as add-ons.
It's priced per project and usually done in one to two weeks. See the Media Kit page.
Which one should I start with?
| Your situation | Start with |
|---|---|
| New business, no logo yet | Brand Kit |
| A launch logo that no longer fits what the business does | Brand Kit |
| A new name, a merger or a new direction | Brand Kit |
| A brand you like, with a guide, and posts that take too long | Media Kit |
| A team or assistant who makes posts and keeps going off-brand | Media Kit |
| Neither exists and posting starts next month | Brand Kit, then Media Kit |
The Brand Kit comes first in the usual order, because the templates are built from its colors, type and layouts. But if you already have a brand you're happy with, there's no need to redo it to get templates. The Media Kit is designed for clients who already have their Brand Kit and are tired of rebuilding the same post from scratch.
Why not just use a free Canva template?
You can, and a lot of people start there. The catch is that thousands of other businesses start with the same one. Bending a template made for someone else takes time, and the further you get from the first piece, the less anything matches. Templates built on your own colors, fonts and logo start on-brand every time.
Can I do one now and the other later?
Yes. Many clients start with a Media Kit and upgrade later. As a returning client you'll get a discount when you decide to expand the brand system. It works the other way around too: a Brand Kit now, and templates once posting becomes a weekly thing.
How do I decide?
Answer two questions. Does the brand you have now feel like yours? And how much of your week goes into making posts and slides look right? If the first answer is no, start with the Brand Kit. If the first is yes and the second is "too much," start with the Media Kit. If you're still not sure, book a call and we'll work it out.
